Module summary

Interested in developing your skills for employment do you want to add an experience to your CV. This module enables you to work with an employer, highly likely in the Arts, Culture or Creative industries, to solve a challenge they face. You will be introduced to commercial awareness and how to incorporate this in solving their challenge which you will present as a group in class. This enables you to reflect on the transferable skills you have gained through the module and identify what further development you need to reach your potential. This is a very practical and interactive module and will be delivered by specialist career consultants. There is no exam as assessment is through coursework. You will undertake a range of written and practical activities including a project with an organisation.

Objectives

There are two main aims of this module. Firstly, introducing and using a reflective framework for your career development throughout this module culminating in SMART objectives. You can utilise this framework for the rest of your working life. Secondly, you will work with an external organisation to solve a challenge they face, enabling you to add this experience to your CV as well as identify transferable skills you have developed.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this module students will be able to:

Demonstrate the principles of commercial awareness by analysing complex business problems in order to develop effective solutions.

Explain the importance of your skill development and the transferability of your skills to different contexts.

Demonstrate a heightened awareness of your own learning process, strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.

Communicate effectively to a diverse audience using digital methods.

Critically analyse and evaluate appropriate solutions to a current business challenge.

Reflect upon your own development in order to identify professional needs and plan for future development.

Private study

All students are expected to undertake a minimum of 2 hrs per week in private study preparing for their weekly taught sessions. This is in addition for the work to be undertaken to develop and create their assessed submissions which include a group presentation, build personal networks and an individual resource.
